1 – After stepping out of the portal, you will see a quite unpleasent view. A desert filled with hundreds of zombies, which may not be particularly strong, but you have to prepare yourself for a long battle to get through them. It's worth mentioning that the Zombies are vulnerable to fire. However, they are not your biggest problem, because on the desert, you will also find two Magma Golems and the dwarf that you know so well.
The best way is to clear some territory from zombies and try to not aggro the golems and the dwarf when doin that. Then, lure them one by one. You should also have some crystals that allow you to revive your companions and use them wisely. Moreover, the Golems are resistant to fire and the best way to attack them is using ranged attacks. It is a slow method, but it's better for you to not test their strength in close fight.
After defeating the Golems, a Power Gem will drop out.
2 – Dig three times on this field to find a Relic. You cannot use it in any way, but you obtain an achievement.
Barren Desert is a location available only from the point of the Ceremonial Chamber of the Pyramids. Right away after entering the desert, you will see an area filled with zombies. There will be dozens of them, which may cause some problems if your party is on lower levels. Two, huge magma golems will be walking around too. It is best to lure them individually. There is also a relic (2) there, which is a reference to the first Legend of Grimrock game. You can't do anything with it except for digging it out. There are also eleven buried chests and a crystal of life. After coming back to this location (later on) you may find some wolves, they may help you with refilling your food supply.
