Trials on Tatooine is set in the universe of Star Wars. It's a free, experimental action game developed with Virtual Reality sets in mind. It was created by ILMxLAB, which consists of some of the legendary studio, Industrial Light & Magic, which worked on CGI for over three hundred movies. The story of the game is set in between the 6th and 7th episode of the Star Wars saga.
Trials on Tatooine is a simple, experimental game set in the Star Wars universe. The game was designed for Virtual Reality devices. Trials on Tatooine has been developed by ILMxLAB, a studio which was established by Disney to create games and stories that can be told via VR. The studio features of the legendary Industrial Light & Magic, which used to be the part of Lucasfilm, responsible for CGI for Star Wars and nearly three hundred other movies. VR googles are mandatory to run the game.
The events take place on the title planet during a period between the events of The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The protagonist of the game is a young Padawan, an apprentice of Luke Skywalker himself, whose mission is to help his master reconstruct the Jedi Order. The plot, however, is only a lightly sketched background – Trials on Tatooine doesn’t have a typical plotline.
It’s hard to speak of this game as of a full-blown action game, since it was designed solely for the purpose of presenting the capabilities of VR sets in the cult universe of Star Wars. The game features a first-person perspective, and the main goal is completing different challenges such as repairing the Millennium Falcon or deflecting Stormtroopers’ projectiles with a lightsaber. Apart from the action sequences, the players can meet characters well-known from the movies, such as R2D2, 3O, or Boba Fett.
Released for PC, Trials on Tatooine is, according to the developer, a way of thanking the most faithful fans of the universe, and at the same time an interactive experiment, which is only a prologue to more complex VR games set in the world of Star Wars. Despite its rather small size, the game features a high-quality visual layer, and requires a really powerful system. The greatest advantage of the game is the Virtual Reality . During the game, players ought to feel that they actually take part in the events, and have full control over the Lightsaber.
