Adventure game realized in the form of a virtual gamebook, based on the work of H.P. Lovecraft. In The Innsmouth Case we play the role of a detective who comes to the town to solve the mysterious disappearance of little Tabitha Marsh.
The Innsmouth Case is an adventure game realized in the form of a gamebook, which was inspired by the work of the famous H.P. Lovecraft. This production was developed by the independent Robot Pumpkin Games studio and released by Assemble Entertainment; the latter's portfolio includes the warmly received Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Dry.
The Innsmouth Case takes us on a journey to a modern version of the Innsmouth, a fictional town known from H.P. Lovecraft's stories (led by The Shadow over Innsmouth). The story told here is full of horror, but it is soothed by a solid dose of specific humour.
When little Tabitha Marsh goes missing under mysterious circumstances, only the best of the best detectives can solve this mystery. However, it so unfortunate that master of this profession is busy with other matters. So the main character has to find the girl.
In The Innsmouth Case the game is played entirely on the pages of a virtual book. During the game, we read descriptions of places and situations where the protagonist is, as well as records of conversations that he conducts with the residents of Innsmouth. Besides, we often make various decisions. The choices we make not only influence the future course of the adventure or affect how the main character is perceived by others, but also determine which version of the end of the story we will see (out of twenty-seven).
Although The Innsmouth Case is almost entirely based on a written word, the production has a pleasant graphic design. Illustrations depicting the events described in the virtual book are designed in a cartoon style and are accompanied by various symbols (including occult ones).

Game Ratings for The Innsmouth Case Video Game.
VGamingNews: 5 / 10 by Gareth Jones
Comparing Innsmouth with other games is a little bit like comparing apples and oranges. It’s certainly a well-made choose-your-adventure book and is perfect for a bus journey or train ride on a mobile gaming device, but is not something I would say is suited to a fully-fledged console experience like the Xbox One.

The Innsmouth Case is a game that did an honorable attempt at trying to shake up the cliché nature of Lovecraftian adaptations by offering players a story in modern times with a lot of sarcastic humor. Sadly, it ended up falling flat due to its limited gameplay and the sad fact that its jokes just weren’t funny at all.
PlayStation Universe: 4 / 10 by Alan Strawbridge
A promising adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's novella is squandered with illogical solutions, childish humour and too many unsatisfying endings. Completists may enjoy finding all the content, but old school 'choose your own adventure' fans should look elsewhere for their fix of interactive fiction.
