Slime Tactics is a Japanese RPG maintained in a comedy fantasy style. The game was developed by Altair Works studio also known for creating a similar game entitled Ambition of the Slimes.

Plot

The story revolves around the race of the titular monsters that resemble mucus balls. As befits a typical jRPG, they are the weakest opponents players encounter at the very beginning of the story campaign. Slime Tactics puts this formula on its head, turning players into the leaders of these creatures.

The extremely funny plot constantly makes fun of fantasy clichés.

Mechanics

As the title might suggest, Slime Tactics is a tactical jRPG that repeatedly refers to the classics of this genre, such as Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions or Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen. The game revolves around exploring the world, completing different quests, developing the character and, above all, fighting.

Battles are the heart of the game. The turn-based combat system allows players to command a small unit of creatures. The skirmishes are tactical. It is crucial to deploy them on the map, take advantage of the elements of the environment, and make use of a wide range of attacks and special skills.

Game modes

Slime Tactics offers the single player mode only. The developers did not include any multiplayer experience.

Technical aspects

The game was developed to follow the formula of jRPGs from 32-bit consoles. The camera shows the action from an isometric perspective, and the cartoon-like environment is fulyl 3D. On the other hand, all units have the form of 2D sprites, with clearly visible and large pixels.
