Mechanics

We start the game leading a small village with limited resources and low needs to meet. Gradually, we discover valuable mineral deposits and start creating infrastructure to extract, transport and process them.

As our city grows, our people start demanding new products (including food and pottery), as well as access to culture and entertainment. These last two needs can be fulfilled by trained actors, sages and gladiators. Holding theater performances or games on the arena makes us more popular among the people. To consolidate our power in New Rome we must establish senators, laws, our path of technological development and the level of taxes. We must also form a strong army to defend the city against invaders.

Nova Roma has us use nature to our advantage - building canals and dams lets us create water reservoirs, supply fountains and create new riverbeds. Making mistakes when expanding the city can result in disasters, such as fires or floods. Our ambitious expansion can also draw the attention of Roman gods, who demand proper worship and dedicated buildings, threatening consequences to our people otherwise.
