A sequel of the popular TPP soulslike with action RPG elements. Mortal Shell 2 offers a compact version of an open world. The developers have removed the stamina bar to make the fights more dynamic. There's also a new combat system about breaking the enemy's defense.
Mortal Shell 2 is a soulslike action RPG, serving as a sequel of Mortal Shell from 2020. The game was developed by the creators of the first installment of the series, namely the independent studio Cold Symmetry.
In Mortal Shell II the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).
Three elements distinguish this sequel from the first part of the series. The first of them is a compact open world that we can freely explore. It features locations such as abandoned temples of forgotten gods and bone citadels, dark forests, and grim icy tombs. There are also dozens of dungeons spreading out beneath it.
The second distinguishing feature of this sequel compared to its predecessor, as well as the vast majority of other soulslike games, is the lack of a stamina indicator. This makes the fights more dynamic and expands our range of possibilities, while at the same time makes our agility and reflexes matter more than before.
The resignation from the stamina bar brought with it another novelty, which is the introduction of the system of "breaking" the opponent's stance. Thanks to it, we can throw the enemy off balance, making him more susceptible to our attacks.
Similar to the first Mortal Shell, during the game we can find the bodies of fallen warriors, which are scattered all over the game world. Each of them provides us with access to a different fighting style and combat skills. Moreover, each shell is equipped with a unique set of strengths and weaknesses. As we progress, we unlock upgrades and develop equipment, which allows us to face increasingly bigger challenges over time.
The opponents we fight are fanatical devotees and other standard adversaries, as well as powerful bosses. They have their weak points and gaps in defense, which need to be detected, carefully observing their movements, to then be able to use them against them.
In Mortal Shell 2 we play as Herald, who has been tasked with recovering the stolen eggs of the Broodmother. Given that they are guarded by sentinels who will not give them up without a fight, the completion of the mission entrusted to us becomes a bloody ordeal.
