Flight of the Amazon Queen takes place in 1941 and its main character is Joe King, a slightly disheartened young man working as a pilot. King's life would be lazy if it wasn't for his natural tendency to fall into all sorts of trouble. He has just managed to avoid getting killed by a few kilograms of dynamite, but he is not allowed to take a break, because the mafia is not going to let him go. In addition, King has a contracted flight to South America along with actress Faye Russell and he must appear at the airport before his biggest competitor does.
You will decide what happens next with the pilot. First of all, you have to free yourself from the hotel occupied by the mafia, get on board the plane and take a captivating journey with Faye to the heart of the Amazon. After some time, the engine breaks down and the plane falls down.
Flight of the Amazon Queen uses a modified SCUMM interface developed by LucasArts. All verbal commands have been replaced by icons, which unfortunately are not very readable and at first, may cause a lot of problems. As in other products of this type, all items carried by King are visible at the bottom of the screen. It is worth mentioning that our hero carries a baseball bat (like a whip in "Indiana Jones"), as well as a diary that is used to save the progress.
Flight of the Amazon Queen has an interesting and full of surprising twists plot, puzzles that aren't too easy nor too difficult, and pleasant audiovisuals. An unquestionable advantage of the game is also its humour. The developers alluded to a large number of allusions to the real events of those times, and the game itself is sometimes reminiscent of a pastiche of American adventure films from the 1950s.
