Defiance 2050 is an MMO shooter that shows a catastrophic vision of the Earth invaded by aggressive aliens. Players take on the role of space technology seekers who, using their unique skills, will explore the ruins of San Francisco.
Defiance 2050 is a refreshed version of RIFT. The title was released in the free-to-play model.
The story told in Defiance 2050 takes us into an undefined future. The Earth became an object of interest of cosmic invaders, who invaded and began the process of planetary terraformation. We play the Ark Hunters, that is the survival art of space technology seekers. As warriors with above-average skills, we travel around destroyed San Francisco, meeting mutant representatives of fauna and flora and aggressive aliens.
Performing further missions introduces us to the details of a catastrophic story, which is complemented by a TV series broadcast in 2013-2015.
The feature line Defiance 2050 is identical to the one presented in Defiance.
The game starts with the creation of a character, which we gradually develop along with the progress in gameplay in the style known from MMORPGs. Our hero gains experience points that allow him to advance to the next level and unlock new skills. During the game we can freely change the available character classes, each of which has its own specialization. At the start we have access to four: Guardian, Assassin, Combat Medic and Assaut.
We observe the game in the third person view, crossing the open, three-dimensional world. The game is based mainly on the performance of subsequent tasks and participation in global events, such as extracting valuable resources or fighting against gigantic monsters, which many players need to overcome. During the fight we have to show accuracy, which is to some extent also determined by character statistics.
The development of the form also includes the selection and modification of an appropriate arsenal. Dozens of futuristic weapons are at our disposal. There are also various vehicles available in the game, which we use to quickly move around the world.
Defiance 2050 offers open world gameplay with hundreds of other players in the traditional MMO style. We can group together with them to carry out missions together or struggle with the toughest opponents in instantiated locations. There is also a PvP mode that allows you to compete on virtual battlefields or in the open world for up to 64 teams.
Defiance 2050 is a faithful reboot of Defiance, in which modern technological solutions have been applied. The update affected mainly graphics, but also game mechanics and interface.

It would seem that making your game available for free is a measure of last resort that always works. It turns out, however, that some productions weren't saved even by this change.

Gamerheadquarters: 6.7 / 10 by Jason Stettner
Defiance 2050 is an alright MMORPG shooter that does something new while still feeling perhaps too familiar.
GamingTrend: 30 / 100 by Lawrence Le
Trion Worlds' “reimagined” Defiance does little to fix the crippled MMO and instead, uses the opportunity to try and capture a new audience with the same bland experience of yesteryear. Defiance 2050 has nothing to leverage but its free-to-play status, nothing to separate itself from the competition, and nothing of quality for new players to latch onto.
But Why Tho?: 5 / 10 by Rashaad Johnson
Defiance 2050 has the potential to be a fun free-to-play open world shooter, once it kicks the lag in the face. Until I see this game possibly not getting the love that it had back in 2013 when it came out for the Xbox 360 and PS3 when accompanied with a rather great SyFy show of the same name.
