A remastered version of the popular TPP zombie action game from Capcom. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster offers much refreshed visuals thanks to running on RE Engine. It also offers a lot of improvements related to saving progress, controls, interface and in-game mechanics.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is a thoroughly refreshed version of the popular action game from 2006. The development and release of this remaster was handled by Capcom, a company that has been overseeing the brand from the beginning.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster takes us to the fictional American town of Willamette, Colorado, which for unknown reasons has been quarantined and cut off from the world by the United States Army. Sensation-seeking reporter Frank West arrives at the scene and quickly discovers that a zombie apocalypse has broken out here, and those who managed to survive have taken refuge in the local shopping mall. From now on, the journalist has 72 hours to conduct an investigation and discover the truth about the events that took place here before the evacuation begins.
In Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game gives us an entire shopping mall at our disposal and it we can explore it freely, getting to know the characters hiding there and completing tasks for them, conducting journalistic investigations, gradually discovering fragments of the main plot and finally fighting various opponents. Among the latter the living dead are the main focus, but there is also no shortage of psychopaths with whom we have to fight.
We can use virtually anything we can find in the mall stores we visit - from toys and sports equipment (such as baseball bats), through furniture and electronics, to construction tools (like hammers) and finally melee weapons and firearms. When punching or shooting at adversaries, we must that melee weapons deteriorate over time, while pistols and rifles can be thrown away once their magazines are empty.
Additionally, the game offers a wide range of clothing items that Frank West can put on. Among them we can find various types of masks, overalls and uniforms. The shopping center is also a place to find books that provide us with various bonuses, food and drinks that regenerate the hero's health, as well as basically useless items implemented here only for humorous purposes, such as a replica of Megabuster from the Mega Man series, which shoots tennis balls.
As befits a journalist, Frank also has a camera with him, with which he can immortalize the events in which he takes part, as well as the creatures he faces. In exchange for taking photos and performing other actions, the protagonist collects so-called Prestige Points and gains subsequent levels. With each promotion, Frank's strength, speed, resistance to damage, or even endurance increases.
The age of time plays an important role here - depending on how we manage to complete the investigation within 72 hours (in-game time es about twelve times faster than real time), we can unlock one of the available endings.
Compared to the original, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster stands out thanks to a series of improvements. The authors enriched the game with automatic saves, modified the controls, improved the interface, and also ensured full sound effects for dialogues.
Moreover, the remaster runs on RE Engine, which previously powered a number of games from the Dragon's Dogma II project.

Dead Rising’s gameplay was revolutionary back in 2006 and Deluxe Remaster proves that two generations later, the series still has a leg to stand on. With some modest improvements and an overhaul to the visuals, Capcom has effortlessly revived a cult classic in a way that feels like it never left. It just feels so damn good to be back in Willamette.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is a very interesting remaster, keeping the same core gameplay whilst deploying vastly better tech that allows a much greater level of detail. It’s not perfect, and I would have liked to see a few more changes to Franks’s adventure, but as the title suggests, this is still nothing more than a remaster, with not that huge of a budget. Regardless, this is a great addition to the series, and perfect for newcomers. Hopefully, this leads to some bigger Dead Rising projects at some point.

This game is as unforgiving at the start as it was in 2006, but if you want a solid zombie survival experience akin to Dawn of the Dead, you can’t do much better than the mall mayhem of Willamette in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
