Roguelike in a westerne climate, made in the form of a dynamic twin-stick shooter. In Colt Canyon, we play the role of a hero, who wanders through randomly generated levels to save his partner and return home safely.
Colt Canyon is a roguelike, made as a dynamic twin-stick shooter. The game was developed by a small independent Retrific studio (and mostly by Jonathan Mannshoven) and released by Headup Games. Among the sources of inspiration for this project are Red Dead Redemption.
Colt Canyon is taking us to the Wild West. During the game, we play the role of a hero whose task is to save the kidnapped partner and get home safely with him. Although initially we only get a cowboy, with time we unlock more characters.
In Colt Canyon, the action was shown from the top-down perspective. Releasing a hostage means for us to overcome nine extended levels and then return to the starting point. As we go through the levels, we are primarily concerned with the elimination of the enemy's hordes. Both regular enemies and powerful bosses stand in our way. The battles are dynamic and we have to be in constant motion in order to avoid hostile attacks, while at the same time trying to lead out targeted attacks. The arsenal at our disposal includes firearms, explosives and various traps.
Due to the fact that the game has implemented permadeath mechanics and the action is extremely fast, it's sometimes worth trying to silently eliminate your enemies and sneak behind their backs. As we progress, we unlock new characters, numerous improvements (at each level there is a prisoner who, after his release, can offer us such or us in battle) and an arsenal, which, combined with a better understanding of the meanings of the game over time allows us to face more and more challenges. Moreover, thanks to the fact that many levels are generated procedurally, the game is characterized by high replayability.
Colt Canyon allows you to play both solo and multiplayer in local co-op mode.
The pixelart setting of Colt Canyon brings to mind the visual sphere of the controversial Custer's Revenge, released in 1982 for Atari 2600. However, the whole thing has been enriched with modern graphic effects, with dynamic lighting at the forefront. Moreover, the game was prepared to work in 60 frames per second.
