How to remove and see draft in Messenger. Your message may have disappeared for good
If you would like to learn more about drafts in Messenger, like how to see and remove them, you're in the right place. Here you will also find a fix for stuck drafts that won't get deleted easily.

It’s been a long time since we’ve started using alternatives to good ol’ SMS. Most of us have heard about or even use WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal, but for many, the daily communicator is without a doubt Messenger which unifies Facebook experience with a chat app. As those applications evolve, more and more useful features are introduced, further adding to, initially simple, chat functionality. Those changes can lead to confusion sometimes, especially when something unexpected happens, like draft messages in Messenger. Let’s shed some light on those and learn how to see and remove them, as from time to time they can get stubborn and won’t get deleted.
How to see drafts in Messenger
It is not uncommon for many of us to start typing a message but then stopping and going back to double check something in another conversation. Draft functionality in Messenger allows us to do it without losing the message that we’ve already written. You can if there is a draft present in a conversation by blue “Draft:” label in front of a preview on Messenger’s home page. To see it, you simply need to get back to the chat and continue with the text until you send it.
There is one thing to keep in mind, though, as it can happen that when you have a conversation with a draft and you completely close the Messenger app, it can disappear. Sadly, there is no way of bringing such text back. This appears to be less common in group chats (if it occurs at all). To prevent it from happening, simply keep the app minimized instead of swiping it out.
Removing stuck drafts in Messenger
Of course, after writing a message, it might have got outdated after some time, or you might have simply changed your mind and decided not to send it altogether. Then, to get rid of that blue label in front of the conversation, you simply have to get into the conversation and delete the message. Usually, that’s all that it takes to remove the draft, yet it’s not always the case.
You can encounter a situation where the draft alert persists every time you open the conversation. This is obviously very annoying and disruptive. If that happened to you, you are not the only one, as there is a lot of people who experienced this issue. Fortunately, the fix is easy – all you have to do is to archive the broken chat and then bring it back up.
Doing so is not an ideal solution, but it works. You can report such issue to Facebook directly, yet fixing an application that is used by hundreds of millions of people daily is a task on another level, so it can take some time before it’s fixed for good by Meta. Until then, we’ll have to make do with what is currently the easiest and readily available. Good luck!
