Duke Nukem Forever Fixed by Dedicated Fan 11 Years After Launch

Eleven years after the disappointing release of Duke Nukem Forever, a fan project has been created that thoroughly improves the game's gameplay, bringing it closer to that of Duke Nukem 3D.

Duke Nukem 3D.

  1. Duke Nukem Forever: Enhanced - the mod from our FTP server. (the author has given us permission to host a mirror)

The first released version of the mod is numbered 1.0 and introduces the following changes:

  1. Removed sprinting and increased the speed of the player's standard movement.
  2. Increased the height of jumps.
  3. Swimming speed has been increased.
  4. Duke can now hold his breath underwater for 45 seconds instead of 15.
  5. The balance of weaponry has been changed to more closely resemble that from Duke Nukem 3D.
  6. Removed screen shaking effect when shooting.
  7. The limit of carrying only 2-4 weapons has been completely removed. You can now carry as many weapons as you want.
  8. A quicksave option has been added.
  9. The ugly Depth of Field effect has been removed.
  10. New post-processing effects have been introduced.
  11. A better shadow system has been implemented.
  12. Steering of cars is now done from FPP.

Duke Nukem Forever was released in June 2011. The game met with a very cold reception - the PC version has an average rating of 54% on Metacritic. I have already played a little with the Enhanced mod and it brings positive changes to the game. It doesn't turn it into a masterpiece, as some things the modders can't fix (such as the poor quality of some levels), but the combat itself and moving around the maps are much better, and the gameplay is significantly more fun.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that DNF is not the first game from Gearbox Software that fans had to fix. The team also has to its credit TemplarGFX's ACM Overhaul.
