Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Difficulty levels
KCD 2 is a challenging production that focuses on realism and advanced systems. From this page of the guide you will find out whether it is possible to manipulate the difficulty level of gameplay in the game.
Like the first time, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 clearly focuses on diverse mechanics and a high level of realism during gameplay. A high level of difficulty can cause anxiety though, especially among new players. On this page of the guide, you will learn if you can change the difficulty level of the game.
Are there difficulty levels?
Right at the beginning, it's worth saying that in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 there are no difficulty levels. The default game mode is the only one available and cannot be adjusted in any way.
In the settings, the option responsible for displaying tutorials is enabled by default. It's worth taking advantage of it, especially if you've never played the series before. The tutorials are neatly incorporated into the story and offer explanations related to basic mechanics such as combat, exploration and alchemy.
You can return to the tutorials by selecting the Help option in the pause menu.
We also recommend to take your time exploring the game world and its mechanics. The tasks following the prologue will introduce you to more advanced elements of the game, as well as allow you to develop your character a bit.
More information about what to do at the beginning of your gameplay can be found on the page Where to go first?.
Is there a hardcore mode?
A feature of the first KCD that was popular among many players was the special Hardcore mode, which imposed additional challenges on the player and diversified the gameplay.
Hardcore mode was not available at the premiere of Kingdom Come 2, it was added with the 1.2.4 update from April 2025. You can choose it only when selecting a new game - you cannot enable it for an already existing campaign.
The hardcore mode includes a number of difficulties related to combat, skill development, or world exploration. It also has the so-called negative perks that can in various ways weaken Henry or slow down his development. We have described all changes of this type in more detail on the Hardcore mode page.
