A continuation of UFO: Enemy Unknown, a cult-classic science-fiction turn-based game from 1994, created by Microprose. The action of X-COM: Terror from the Deep takes place 40 years after the events known from its predecessor, in which the titular organization managed to defeat the alien invaders.
X-COM: Terror from the Deep for PC is the sequel of UFO: Enemy Unknown, a popular game created by MicroProse. The action takes place in 2040, 40 years after the events presented in the first installment, when X-COM organization, created in order to defend Earth against the aliens, had managed to defeat the invaders. Sadly, as it turns out, the victory wasn’t complete, as some of the shot-down alien vessels have fallen into the ocean, where the remnants created underwater bases that are now used to attack humanity.
Earth is once again in danger, but this time the source of the threat are the ocean’s depths. As the commander of X-COM forces, you need to build and develop underwater bases, as well as create new units that will intercept alien vessels, destroy their crews, and deliver samples to your scientists.
The base gameplay hadn’t changed much in the relation to the predecessor, including the same (albeit improved) interface, as well as updated graphic engine. The number of alien species, technologies, and equipment that can be used by our soldiers was increased immensely. The biggest mainstay of the game is once again the vibe, which has been also present in UFO: Enemy Unknown, augmented by some novelties introduced in the sequel.
