Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II is the second installment of the turn-based strategy series, launched in 2018. The sequel was developed by the authors of the first part of the series, namely the Bulwark Studios team.

Plot

As the title suggests, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II takes us to the world of Warhammer 40,000, immersed in eternal conflict. The game tells the story of the war fought by the Necrons, led by Vargard Nefershah, and the Adeptus Mechanicus forces, commanded by Magos Dominus Faustinius, known from the first part of the series. As their battles become increasingly intense, they begin to attract the attention of other, even more deadly forces.

How the fate of the war unfolds depends on our actions and the choices we make. The game offers two story campaigns, one for the Necrons and one for the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Mechanics

Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II gives us two factions, differentiated in of strengths and weaknesses, available skills and units, and fighting style.

The highlight of the game are the battles fought in turn-based mode , during which we must pay attention not only to the combat potential of our troops, but also to their location on the battlefield. Moreover, wanting to gain an advantage, we should keep in mind the topography of the terrain, as natural objects can serve us as cover. Regardless of the chosen side of the conflict, as we progress we can improve our subordinates, which over time allows them to face increasingly greater challenges.

This is not the end, because the game also implements a mechanic reminiscent of 4X strategies, thanks to which we can fight for control over the entire planet, conquering specific regions and defending them against enemy attempts, as well as generating the resources necessary to achieve success. Our wins or failures largely depend on the combat potential of the units gathered in a given area.

The story told in Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II is the work of Ben Counter, the author of the plot of the first part of the series and the very popular books set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The game is played to the accompaniment of atmospheric music by Guillaume David.
