Soulstorm for PC is the third official expansion for the real-time strategy Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War that was released in 2004. Soulstorm, similarly as Dark Crusade, is a stand-alone expansion. It means that it doesn’t require the basic version of Dawn of War to be played. Two studios developed Soulstorm – Relic Entertainment and Iron Lore Entertainment (known for the Titan Quest).

Plot

The expansion offers a full-fledged singleplayer campaign which takes place in a whole star system consisting of four planets and three moons. The previous expansions offered only a single planet. The story of the game focuses on a weird anomaly, the title Soulstorm, which for example makes it impossible to precisely navigate ships that fly nearby it. Many factions are curious about it and want to examine it. This leads to series of skirmishes between the power horses of the Warhammer universe.

The main cons of the game

  • More Maps and Game Modes: There is a call for additional maps and varied game modes to enrich the skirmish experience and provide more content for players.

Summary

  • Overall, while Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Soulstorm has a strong legacy and a dedicated fanbase, it faces criticism regarding its stability, campaign depth, and AI balance, with many players relying on mods to enhance their experience.
