Release Date: October 1, 2002
A sequel to Unreal Tournament, the 1999 game by Digital Extremes. The title was a spin-off of the popular series of first-person shooters and it focused mostly on multiplayer competition. The general gameplay principles haven’t changed, but Unreal Tournament 2003 introduces many improvements and changes to the series, including new gameplay modes, a expanded set of standard and special movements and the possibility to use various vehicles.
Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to the famous Unreal Tournament, intended mainly for multiplayer gameplay. The first thing that catches the eye are the new, significantly improved visuals, powered by a new engine (ing texture resolutions up to 1024 x 768, dynamic shading and lighting, fog effects, realistic smoke and many other things). The players have over 30 new maps to choose from, featuring various shapes and environments, such as jungle, glacier, volcanic terrain, desert, space, and so on. Each player may choose his character (over 35 different character models) from among six races, namely: Nightmare, Egyptians, genetically modified humans, robots, aliens, and mercenaries.
Unreal Tournament 2003 introduces a number of enhancements and changes to the gameplay mechanics known from its predecessor. We now have a considerably bigger move set at our disposal: we can move, run, and shoot without energy consumption, as well as perform special moves that use up a fixed amount of energy, such as Speed and Berserk. Another novelty is the possibility of using various vehicles. During a match, we may acquire three types of bonuses: life, armor and weapons. UT2003, apart from online gameplay, also allows for playing solo against AI opponents, the so-called bots.
