Release Date: April 24, 2007
An MMORPG set in the fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien for The Lord of the Rings trilogy and his other works. The players get right in the middle of the war between the forces of evil (led by Sauron, who commands an unlimited number of orcs and other beasts from Mordor) and the forces of good (races inhabiting the remaining parts of Middle-Earth).
The Lord of The Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar for PC is the first MMORPG set in the world created by none other than J.R.R. Tolkien. The plot of the game is inspired by the story presented in The Lord of The Rings trilogy, however, it has been adequately adjusted for the sake of the game to provide players with an interesting experience while they venture through Middle-Earth.
In The Lord of The Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, a player is tasked with fighting the forces of evil comprising the minions of Sauron, such as the filthy orcs and other dangerous beasts. During the game, one can expect many battles, interacting with other players and NPCs, collecting numerous pieces of equipment, and gathering experience points allowing one to develop his character and unlock new skills for him. When creating his character, a player can choose from such races as Elves, Men, Hobbits, and Dwarves, and then modify the physical appearance of his hero.
Players can choose different paths to follow – one can become a great warrior, or settle down for a peaceful life revolving around gathering resources and crafting numerous items.
The game delivers 3D visuals, which allowed the developers to lavishly recreate the Middle-Earth we all know from the movies.
Since mid-2010, the game has switched to a free-to-play business model. This means that players can enjoy it for free, however, those who want to unlock the access to the so-called ' content' have to utilize the optional microtransactions system.
