Sixth installment of the Test Drive series and third installment prepared by Pitbull Syndicate studio. Players have the opportunity to chase more than thirty super-fast cars in a highly arcade style.
Since 1997, when Test Drive games were developed by the British studio Pitbull Syndicate, it has undergone a metamorphosis towards arcade racing with a large number of luxury cars. Test Drive 6 does not break out of this scheme. Game developers used a number of elements from the two previous editions of the cycle, and the introduced changes enriched the gameplay options.
This time players have the opportunity to test themselves behind the wheel of 36 cars (40 if you add police radio), which are divided into four classes. Class I includes models: Lotus Elise, Audi TT, Marcos Mantaray, Lotus Esprit Turbo, Ford F150 SVT Lightning, Jaguar XKR, Plymouth Prowler, Plymouth Hemi Cuda, Dodge Charger, Ford Mustang LX 5.0, Ford Mustang 428 CJ and Caterham Seven. They found themselves in the second class: Venturi Atlatnique, Panoz Esperante, TVR Griffith, Lotus Esprit V8, Dodge Concept, Ford Mustang Super Stallion, Shelby Series 1, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Subaru Impreza 22B STI. Class III includes Dodge Viper GTS, TVR Cerbera, Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, Ford Mustang Saleen S351, Jaguar XK-180, Shelby Cobra and Venturi 400 GT. In the last - IV class there were the fastest models available in the game: Ford GT-40, Dodge Viper GTS-R, Jaguar XJ220, Aston Martin Project Vantage, TVR Speed Twelve, Nissan R390 GT-1, Lotus GT1 and Toyota GT-One.
The division into particular groups of cars is justified by the way the game is played. In the "Challenge" and "Tournament" modes, computer-controlled opponents compete in cars of the same class as the player-controlled vehicle. Unlocking access to higher category cars requires winning two tournaments.
An important part of Test Drive 6 is economy. Racing on the roads of 5 metropolises (New York, London, Paris, Rome and Hong Kong) players earn credit points. The number of bets depends on the place occupied and the size of the bet agreed before the race. Credit points can be used to buy new cars, modify an existing machine, unblock new routes or pay fines imposed by law enforcement officers.
In addition to single race, tournament and challenge modes, there are two more gameplay options. "Cop Chase" makes it possible to drive a police radio vehicle. For each road pirate caught, players receive a certain amount of credit points (to be used in other modes of play). After stopping, the "Stop the Bomber" mode is unlocked in all locations in the game.
Audio-visual luminaire Test Drive 6 presents a decent level. Compared to the previous version of the series, the graphics have been slightly improved. The soundtrack of the game included mainly tracks by Fear Factory.
