Superliminal

Superliminal is a first-person puzzle game, in which the player solves visual puzzles based on depth, perspective and illusion. The game was previously known as Museum of Simulation Technology and has been created since 2013. The title was developed and released by the independent studio Pillow Castle Games as its debut project.

Mechanics

In Superliminal we observe the action from first-person perspective. The game is about solving puzzles - most often it's about finding a way out of a room. Although it sounds quite simple, in practice the fun can be really twisted and complicated. All because the puzzles in Pillow Castle Games' title use depth, perspective and optical illusions.

How does it work in practice? For example, imagine that we see a room with a door on one of the walls - at the height of around 3 meters, beyond our reach. There is no ladder or staircase in the area, but there is a painting hanging on the wall. When we move away from it at a sufficient distance, from our perspective it will be so small that it will be no problem... we're gonna grab it between our fingers. The same image, reversed accordingly and dropped, will become a great platform, on which we will climb to the exit without any problems.
