SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a collection of classic games developed by SNK. The package was released in 2018 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the company that was founded in 1978 as Shin Nihon Kikaku Corporation.
The collection features a set of old games. Some of them are available in two versions – the one known from arcades and one from consoles. The developers implemented some improvements like the option to rewind the gameplay or to save the game at any point. The controls were also adapted to modern controllers. A Museum Mode was added – it features various graphics materials with the history of the company and its games.
Among the latter there are shooters like Alpha Mission from 1985 and Ikari Warriors from 1986, action platform game Athena also from 1986, beat ‘em up game Street Smart from 1989, and titles like Crystalis, Ikari III: The Rescue, Guerrilla War, P.O.W., Prehistoric Isle in 1930, Psycho Soldier, TNK III, Vanguard and Victory Road
None of the games available in SNK 40th Anniversary Collection were improved when it comes to graphics or sounds. The only change is the fact that the collection s 1080p resolution.
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection features a box edition that contains Nostalgic Music Collection CD soundtrack, 40th Anniversary Art Collection art book, and a special box.

The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a great collection of not necessarily great games. While retro enthusiasts and multiplayer fans will likely have this anthology near the top of their wish list, others might want to wait for some DLC to flesh it out.

This collection may not appeal to everyone, as when you boil it down a lot of these title feel the same. This serves more as a collector's piece, which isn't a bad thing; it's just very niche. As you can see though, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection does has a lot on offer. With thirteen titles from the off, eleven more coming the month after, and the various versions included, this anniversary bundle makes for quite the collection of portable nostalgia. Old games are very hard and it's important that we know where all the wonderful games we play today, started out. If you're interested in seeing those beginnings, then pick this game up and fill your boots.
