SimTunes is probably the most unusual and original game from the series of sims created by Maxis. This title, addressed to the youngest audience, does not hide another economic strategy, but a logical game focused on developing the creativity of players by playing with colours and sound.

The idea of the game was born in the mind of Japanese artist Toshio Iwai, who was its main designer and composer of music. The PC version is an extension of Sound Fantasy, a game created in the early 1990s for the SNES console.

SimTunes gameplay is about painting simple pictures using colored dots, each symbolizing a note. Next, on the image created in this way, we place worms available in four colours, symbolizing instruments and vocal textures. Moving in a variety of directions, these creatures play their colourful notes to create a unique, interactive musical experience. Each of the four colours of appendixes has a set of 12 different instruments, which gives a total of 48 possible combinations. Players can influence their speed and direction of movement, and thus freely model the resulting sound motif.
