Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 is a three-dimensional jRPG that is a part of the cult Shin Megami Tensei series. The title takes place in contemporary Japan, enhanced with paranormal occurances. It was developed by Sega and Atlus – the latter company is known for consequently developing the Shin Megami Tensei since it was created in 2004.
Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 takes place in the modern times, in the Akihabara district of Tokyo. There exist the Devil ers in the world – the titular Dx2 – who have the power of summoning demons by using a special… smartphone app. The main protagonist of the game, led by a mysterious character, also gains this ability. He s a secret organization of Liberators – one of the factions of Dx2 that is protecting the world from the dangerous enemy known as the Acolytes. How far will the Dx2 have to go in order to win?
In Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2, the players are exploring a three-dimensional environment (including large dungeons filled with monsters classic for the series), discovering the main plot of the game, completing quests, and fighting. The latter uses the Press Turn Battle System that was introduced in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. It assigns a special turn icon to each fighting character. It can be then used to perform a move – some actions deplete the whole icon (or even a few icons at once, like the combo attacks) while others use only half of it. When fighting, the players can of course take advantage of the paranormal ability of the protagonist to summon demons.
The game features many solutions known from other Shin Megami Tensei games. This includes the possibility to combine demons in order to obtain their stronger versions, and the option to negotiate with the demons – this enables the players to force them to cooperation or to obtain various gifts and items.
Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 features a singleplayer story mode and the option to fight with other players (PvP mode).
Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 features three-dimensional graphics of high quality – at least compared to other mobile games. Typically for Japanese games, the artistic style of the graphics is based on manga comics. This can be noticed in the specific designs of important characters and demons.
