A real-time strategy which took inspirations from Age of Empires and other classics of the RTS genre. Settle and Battle: New Empires allows us to command a tribe of our choosing. We need to gather resources, erect building, recruit soldiers and wage wars. We can play a story campaign and single skirmishes.

Settle and Battle: New Empires is a real-time strategy game, created in a form reminiscent of classic genre series like Age of Empires. The game was developed by the independent, one-person Attic Games Studio from . It has in its portfolio, among others, a similar genre project Mars: Colonization.

Gameplay

In Settle and Battle: New Empires we watch the action from a bird's eye view. During the game we take control of one of the tribes, which have been diversified in of buildings and special units. The game takes place on maps covered with a grid of hexagonal fields. We find resources and they are necessary for the development of our tribe. In the worst case, it can be an empty space waiting to be filled.

Apart from food that allows us to feed our subjects, the basic resources here are wood and clay, which we use to construct buildings. The list of buildings includes objects related to agriculture (and hence food production), settlement and the needs of residents (by providing them with a roof over their heads and fulfilling their whims, we increase the number of subjects and the population limit), extraction of resources (coal, copper, iron and gold) and the production of goods based on them (led by weapons and armor). There are also structures related to the military purposes (from barracks, where we recruit units, to defensive towers).

This vast list of buildings allows us to create production chains and prepare for conducting military operations. It is worth ing that objects can be erected within individual fields. Additionally, many of them can only be placed on fields of a certain type (like the ones containing a specific resource).

Just like the rest of the gameplay, battles take place in real time. We can pause or speed up the pace of the game. The latter comes in handy when we are waiting for the workers to finish construction.

Game modes

The main game mode in Settle and Battle: New Empires is the story campaign. In addition to it, the game provides us with procedurally generated maps, on which we can play individual skirmishes.

Graphics

The graphic design of Settle and Battle: New Empires was created in low poly technique (it means that it was based on a relatively small number of clearly visible polygons). The characters were kept in a "blocky" style reminiscent of Minecraft.
