A re-release of Resident Evil, released exclusively in digital form as part of the PSOne Classics service. Resident Evil: Director's Cut, released on PS1, PSV, etc., is an extended and uncensored version of the game which debuted in 1996 and is widely regarded as one of the precursors of the survival horror genre. The Japanese company Capcom is responsible for the creation of the series.
The action takes us to the Raccoon City, which for some time has been an arena of inexplicable and terrifying events. Bloodthirsty mutant monsters that murder people or turn them into zombies roam the streets. A mysterious corporation called Umbrella is to blame for everything. It developed a dangerous virus that escaped from the company's laboratories due to unforeseen circumstances. In order to control the situation, a special branch of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) is sent to the place.
We can play as two independent characters: Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. Depending on the choice made, the story and the game itself will follow a slightly different path. Jill's path is a bit easier as she has more slots in her equipment and more ammunition. Chris has less space in his backpack and less ammunition, but he is a bit more resistant to attacks. The main plot for both characters overlaps to a large extent, and the fun comes down to exploring, solving puzzles and fighting against the overwhelming groups of zombies. In combat, we can use a wide range of weapons, including a knife, firearms or a rocket launcher. The game has several, slightly different endings.
In Director's Cutversion, we can choose from three gameplay variants. Original mode is an exact copy of the original from 1996 without any changes or additions. Arrange Mode allows you to play the directorial version, where the outfits of the heroes have been changed and a few minor modifications have been made to the mechanics of the game. The biggest attraction of this mode is the full, uncensored version of the intro, containing many drastic changes that were absent in the original release. In addition, after completing the game, we get access to a number of interesting extras. This is complemented by the Beginner variant, which doubles the amount of ammunition and save points, increases the hero's energy bar and the amount of damage inflicted and adds an auto-aiming option.
