A fast-paced first-person shooter developed by Polish studio People Can Fly. In Painkiller the player assumes the role of Daniel Garner, who upon dying has been assigned to stop the armies of hell led by Lucifer himself. The story told in the game is linear and the campaign is split into five chapters, each one consisting of several levels.
Painkiller is an action FPS game created by People Can Fly, a Polish developer studio, inspired by such classic shooters as Quake and Unreal Tournament. The protagonist is a man that specializes in killing all kinds of undead creatures inhabiting dark dungeons, abandoned castles and the like. Once, he was human, Daniel Garner, who lived, loved, worked, laughed, cried and eventually died, just like everyone else. But unlike the most, he did not go to hell or heaven once he ed away, instead, he was chosen as a warrior with a mission to stop the infernal hordes of Lucifer. He's been endlessly fighting the damned ever since, and only by destroying the forces of evil can he finally redeem himself and go to the paradise.
The game offers a dozen of levels connected through a consistent, though linear, story. We have a number of deadly weapons at our disposal, some of which have never been seen before in any FPS, and others are considered genre's classics. We may also run across unique power-ups and pieces of equipment. Without them, exterminating such vile monsters as Saphathoraél, Zombie Knight, Psychonun, or Skull would be completely impossible.
Painkiller is the first Polish game to ever employ the Havok 2 engine, including of the newest graphics and sound cards.

Games used to be better? Well, when you narrow it down to specific examples of weapons from FPP shooters, there may be even more reasons for nostalgic memories and grumbling about today's standards!

People Can Fly is working independently and going strong. This year we’ll learn more about their smaller project, but the official announcement of the high-budget shooter from the creators of Bulletstorm is something we’ll have to wait for.

Action
An official expansion for Painkiller, an FPS created by the Polish studio People Can Fly. Daniel Garner managed to defeat Lucifer but his throne was immediately taken by Alastor. The hero must pick up his weapons once again and face hordes from hell so he can finally defeat its new demonic ruler. The developers created ten new, complex maps for this expansion and each one of them has its unique style – during the game we visit, e.g. a demonic version of Stalingrad. The gameplay remains unchanged – the core of the game is to eliminate hordes of weaker enemies alongside those that are much stronger, including powerful bosses. The AI was important for the developers during the development of Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell and the game shows that. This also makes this title a little bit harder. The arsenal is also expanded – we can use, e.g. a weapon that is a hybrid of a machine gun and a flamethrower. Besides the single player campaign, the expansion also introduces two new multiplayer modes.
