Noct is a two-dimensional survival horror aimed at multiplayer fun, realized in a classic top-down perspective and combining the elements of action games with the features of survival RPG. The title was released on the PC platform by an experienced publisher - Devolver Digital, with such gems as Broforce, OlliOlli and Hotline Miami. The game is the responsibility of an independent C3SK studio, and the project was financed with the of Kickstarter s.
Noct presents us with a postapocalyptic image of the Earth, plunged into total darkness by an ancient evil that struck without warning, decimating the human population. Players take on the role of survivors who, as they travel through a lightless world (referred to as the title Noct), fight without rest to defeat the unusual invader and the terror that he spreads.
In of mechanics we are dealing with a widely understood action game, shown in a view from above. The fun comes down to wandering through a vast, procedurally generated world and fighting against monsters that were inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft and divided into several categories (from so-called minions to extremely demanding bosses). A lot of emphasis was also placed on survival elements. The character controlled by us has only one life and is described by three main parameters, which can be improved during the game by finding various useful items and unique weapons. There are quite a lot of them in the game - from simple planks with nails to automatic firearms. During the game we can also find a number of different notes and audiologists, which will allow us not only to get to know the various details of the world, but also the location of hidden boxes with reserves or weak points of individual monsters.
Noct on the PC platform has been designed in such a way that dozens or even hundreds of players can play together on one game server. So we can start playing alone (and even set up our own server), but the full range of possibilities Noct We get to know each other only by interacting with other players and together we shape the constantly changing world of the game.
A characteristic feature of Noct is the very original way of presenting the world. As the plot of the game takes place on a land plunged into total darkness, we can only see a thermal image from a satellite, which does not make it easier to orientate in the field, but gives the game a unique character. A climatic soundtrack, created by a dark ambient music specialist named Wordclock and guitarist Robin Finck, who cooperates with Nine Inch Nails, is also responsible for the appropriate experience.
