Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition is a remastered, content-enhanced version of Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, a warmly received hybrid of a turn-based strategy, an RPG and a puzzle game.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition is a remastered, content-enhanced version of Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, a combination of a turn-based strategy, an RPG and a puzzle game. It was developed by Capybara Games, the same studio responsible for the original game, and published by Dotemu.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition is set in a fantasy world, in the land of Ashan, 40 years before the events of Heroes of Might and Magic V. The game tells the story of five heroes trying to save the world from a demonic conspiracy.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition makes use of a top-down perspective. Although the game has plenty of exploration, conversations with NPCs and quests, as expected from an RPG, it mostly revolves around combat.
Battles are turn-based, players controlling various units, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and abilities. To succeed, we must take advantage of their strengths, position them correctly and chain their attacks into effective combos.
As we progress, we recruit new party , hire mercenaries, acquire powerful artifacts and spells, as well as develop our heroes and units. All this lets us face gradually grander challenges.
In addition to its single-player campaign, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition features an extensive, rebalanced multipler mode. We can play locally or online, competitively (1v1, 2v2) or in co-op, or against the AI.
The remastered version also includes the I Am the Boss expansion, letting us play as one of the game's bosses outside the campaign.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition features colorful, cartoonish visuals. Compared to the original release, the game stands out thanks to its remade character portraits.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes has held up very well despite many similar games coming out in the intervening years. It offers a high level of depth in its battle system that keeps you coming back, and is especially well suited to the Switch's handheld mode that makes it easy to say "just one more battle."

Clash of Heroes can be challenging and addictive, but there’s an undeniable RNG element that plays an important role in some battles, and you must learn to live with it. Less understandable are some oversights that shouldn’t be in this definitive edition, such as the noticeable AI blunders – ignoring an elite unit merge in favor of a random move, for example. On the other hand, the turn switch animation troubles me, feeling like a second that lasts an eternity, as we’re bound to see it dozens of times per battle. This system would benefit from speed and urgency when control changes from one field to the other, instead of that lingering animation. Can Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes – Definitive Edition be considered as an essential revamp to a cherished game? It doesn’t bring a hefty dose of changes and additions, that’s for sure, making it difficult to recommend to owners of the original; however, new players should be able to discover a gripping puzzle game that, albeit not perfect, still provides many hours of merging and fusing entertainment.

There is a lot I enjoyed with Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. When I'm winning, I like the gameplay loop. The art is fantastic, and looks great when I play in hand held mode. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes starts out as a welcoming game. After a few battles, I begin to see the cracks. Enemy heroes I play against are two, sometimes three, levels ahead of me, something that is not easy to overcome. The random drops of units on my side don't feel equal to the ones my AI enemy gets. I feel like I'm always on the defensive during the campaign. But the multiplier is excellent, -and-play is exactly what I want in a game like this.
