An adventure game developed exclusively for Virtual Reality headgear. Manifest 99 takes players on board the train traversing the netherworld and tasks them with helping the other engers reach their destinations.
Manifest 99 is an original adventure game created by an independent developer called Flight School Studio. Among other platforms, the game is available on PC and PS4 and has been developed for Virtual Reality headgear.
The action of Manifest 99 for PC and PS4 is set in a train traversing the netherworld. During the game, players get to meet four engers traveling in separate train cars: the bear, the doe, the crow, and the owl. One's main objective is to discover the story of all four engers (including the main protagonist) and guide them safely to their destinations. The main element distinguishing this game from the next title is the fact that the story is told with images – nobody speaks a word throughout the entire game (the storyline is about an hour long).
In the PC and PS4 release of Manifest 99 players get to observe the action from the First Person Perspective (FPP). Their main objective is to look for items precious to other engers in order to learn new pieces of their stories. Interestingly enough, the game does not require you to use a controller – the only thing you need it the virtual reality headgear. Players can freely look around the in-game environment by moving their heads. Looking into the engers' eyes allows you to enter their memories while catching an eye with one of the ravens that have taken over the train allows teleportation.
In spite of its simplicity, the 3D visuals featured in Manifest 99 are bound to satisfy players – also because of the surreal style, which together with the grim soundtrack builds the atmosphere of the game.
