A new installment in a series of logic music games, inspired by Tetris and started back in 2004. Lumines Arise was developed by Enhance studio - they're the creators of Rez Infinite and Tetris Effect: Connected. This installment offers a bunch of surreal locations and a brand new Burst mechanic.
Lumines Arise is a logic-music game, representing a unique combination of Tetris style puzzle elements with a unique audiovisual setting. It represents a series started in 2004 by the game Rez Infinite). This project was finished under the supervision of Tetsuya Mizuguchi, well known to fans of the series.
At first glance, the gameplay in Lumines Arise doesn't deviate too much from what the iconic Tetris has accustomed us to. The game takes place on a board where blocks of two colors fall from above. Our goal is to create squares of one color from them, which are then removed, generating points for us.
All of this happens to the rhythm of music, and the squares are cleared by a timeline that regularly es through the boards. Although we have no influence on the latter, we can take advantage of the Burst mechanic, which is a novelty in the series. It temporarily stops the cleaning of matched blocks, allowing us to further expand them and thus gain more points when the effect ends.
The game takes us to various surreal locations. Among them, we will find a jungle or the streets of Tokyo, as well as more fanciful places, like interstellar space. Our reflection in the game world is an avatar and their appearance can be adapted to individual preferences.
We can play Lumines Arise alone or in multiplayer mode. The game offers a chance to play with other players locally or over the Internet. There is also an optional VR mode.
During the game, we are accompanied by music composed by a group known as Hydelic, whose works we could hear in Tetris Effect: Connected and Rez Infinite (specifically - in the Area X mode).
What we see on the screen, as well as what we hear, intertwines and connects with each other, causing a phenomenon known as synesthesia.
