Level Zero: Extraction is an FPS extraction shooter, with elements of survival horror and asymmetrical multiplayer titles. We can play as mercenaries fighting for the collection of valuable data, or as aliens hunting for them and vulnerable only to light.
Level Zero: Extraction is an extraction shooter created in the survival horror style. The game was developed by the independent studio DogHowl Games. Among their sources of inspiration, the authors mention such works as Lethal Company.
Level Zero: Extraction takes us to the not-too-distant future. Technological progress has enabled humanity to conquer distant corners of the universe. One of them was the planet Turion, where scientists working for the New Horizons corporation discovered alien life forms. Bad luck would have it that after a failed experiment aimed at improving human DNA, the latter ended up on Earth.
At this point, mercenaries from all over the world the action. Their goal is to obtain the research conducted by New Horizons, stop the aliens from taking over the blue planet and earn as much cash as possible. Of course, to achieve all this, they first have to survive, which will not be easy at all.
In Level Zero: Extraction we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). During the game we take on the role of mercenaries who together in teams of up to three people. While traversing futuristic locations, most often bathed in darkness, we collect valuable data and we also eliminate enemies standing in our way - they can be both soldiers controlled by other players, and opponents controlled by AI. Among the latter, minor mutants or automatic turrets take the lead.
The list of adversaries we can face does not end here. Players are divided into two categories, and while some take on the roles of soldiers, others can take on the role of alien life forms that hunt anyone who gets within reach of their claws. Interestingly, death on the battlefield does not mean the end of the game. When our character falls dead, we can take control of the observation drone and continue to our allies.
Mercenaries have a wide range of melee weapons at their disposal, such as axes, swords and hammers, as well as firearms, led by rifles and shotguns. It's worth ing that aliens are resistant to physical damage, which makes all kinds of clubs and other murder tools effective only in confrontations with humans and machines. However, the weak point of the alien life forms is their sensitivity to light, so when fighting them, soldiers must use flashlights, flares, and other items that emit light. In addition to this, survival is made easier by relying on various gadgets, led by motion sensors. Meanwhile, aliens may use their toxic saliva, electromagnetic pulses, and paralyzing scream in combat. Alien beings can also become invisible.
By completing subsequent missions, we increase our reputation with merchants, which gives us access to new, better equipment. Moreover, the game allows us to modify weapons using all sorts of components, such as stocks or sights. Our chances of survival are also increased by neural implants, with which we can strengthen and improve our mercenaries. New evacuation points also play an important role (reaching them is a condition for finishing the contracts), which we unlock as we progress. By taking on the role of aliens, over time we can sell their DNA and use the funds obtained in this way to develop our mercenary.
Level Zero: Extraction allows only multiplayer gameplay over the Internet.
