Into the Darkness VR is an action adventure game, designed for virtual reality headsets. This project is the result of a collaboration between the indie Polish team 9 lives and the Cosmos Games studio from Vietnam.

Gameplay

In Into the Darkness VR we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). We primarily focus on eliminating mechanical enemies in the game, but the fun is diversified by environmental puzzles, which occasionally block our way.

Enemies

We need to deal with androids differentiated in of classes, determining their weaponry and fighting style. Apart from robots fighting with their own fists, we have to face machines equipped with melee weapons and firearms. Artificial intelligence oversees their behavior and it constantly adapts to our actions.

Arsenal

On the battlefield, we make use of a wide range of weapons. Apart from pistols, rifles and shotguns, the game also provides us with other ranged weapons (led by bows and shurikens), as well as melee weapons (such as knives, katanas or crowbars). Additionally, we can try our luck at hand-to-hand combat or dismember enemies to use their parts as weapons.

Interactions with the environment

Our possibilities do not end here, as the game also allows us to interact with elements of the environment, which we can pick up and destroy. Their behavior is overseen by the physics engine implemented here. Additionally, we gain access to a special glove that can attract and repel objects, as well as slow down time. Sometimes we also need to break into security systems and scan the environment using special devices.

Resource management

The necessity of managing a resource called LUMA deserves a separate mention. It allows us to create weapons and ammunition, as well as special medical items (RAMP). However, we cannot use this option "on the fly", but only at special crafting stations. The matter is further complicated by the fact that these are not very densely distributed.
