The debut game of the German studio Serious Bros. In Imagine Earth we play the manager of a planetary colony at the service of a huge corporation. Our task is to expand our settlement and economically dominate enemy companies.
Imagine Earth is a strategy game developed by the independent German studio Serious Bros. In the game we play the role of a manager of a space colony on an alien planet. Our task is to develop the colony, gain influence in the galaxy and stop various threats.
Imagine Earth is about the rivalry between corporations wishing to expand their influence. As a result of constant conflicts and exploitation of natural resources, Earth has been completely plundered. After developing technology allowing interplanetary travel, corporations began to hire settlers. Their mission is to populate planets, extract resources, trade and subjugate enemy colonies.
The gameplay in Imagine Earth takes place in real time. The player, at the service of one of the corporations, must build cities producing important resources. To function, a colony needs electricity and food. To fuel the industry we must therefore meet the needs of the settlers. It is also necessary to conduct research and discover new technologies that can further develop our planet.
A unique game mechanics is the fully simulated climate system. The buildings we construct have an impact on the planet's atmosphere. Running industry causes pollution, which increases the global temperature. Too aggressive development can lead to global warming, melting glaciers, rising sea levels and submerging colonies. In addition, we have to deal with natural disasters such as forest fires and volcanic eruptions. The key to success is striking a balance between caring for the environment and meeting the demands of the bosses.
Our colony is never the only settlement on the planet. During the game we will have to deal with cities sponsored by hostile corporations. One of our goals is to take them over. However, instead of weapons we use the global market for this. To take over rivals' colonies we have to dominate them economically and buy their shares.
Apart from nature and hostile companies, other threats stand in our way. Space is a turbulent place populated by pirates and potential invaders. If we are attacked we have to rely on the shields and laser cannons we set up. Battles take inspiration from the tower defence genre. Each defence structure covers a specific area, so it is worth making sure that our entire colony is protected.
Imagine Earth features a large number of single player modes. The campaign includes a few different planets, which we have to colonise while meeting the requirements of the corporation that employs us. The free game mode allows for random generation of planets. In free play mode we can face four computer-controlled corporations at the same time. The player also has access to the planet editor, thanks to which he can create his own maps for the game.
The game boasts eye-pleasing colourful graphics. Buildings and vegetation overgrowing the planets are particularly impressive.
