A visual novel that takes us to the memories of a woman named Kasio. If Found... touches on serious problems such as entering adulthood, looking for your own way, family relationships... ...or the end of the world caused by a growing black hole.
If Found... is a visual novel adventure game from Irish developer DREAMFEEL. The founder of the studio is the award-winning artist Llaura McGee. The story told in the game revolves around the memories of a young woman named Kasio (which is a short for Cassiopeia) and her problems with entering adulthood. The plot is driven by the feeling of loss, and the background to the story is a black hole threatening the destruction of our planet.
If Found... takes us to Ireland in the '90s. The game tells the story of an astronaut named Kasio. She was tasked with investigating a mysterious black hole that threatens to destroy our planet. However, the Space is not the ultimate destination of our journey, but only a stopover to learn about the heroine's past. We have the opportunity to see Kasio's memories, which tell the story of a young girl trying to enter into adult life and looking for her place in the world. We'll find out why she had to erase them.
If Found... is a visual novel, it means that it is in vain to look for spectacular mechanics known from other types of games. In such games, the most important thing is the story told and the decisions made by the player. It's no different with If Found. The game introduces other elements of the gameplay, but they do not have a real impact on the progress of the plot, but rather serve to build a climate. For example, when erasing the main character's memories we have to do it literally - erase them, like an eraser in a graphics program.
DREAMFEEL studio was founded by the artist Llaura McGee. No wonder that a lot of attention has been paid to the graphics design. If Found... presents hand drawn graphics that don't focus on details but on conveying the atmosphere. Both the colours and the line are used very carefully in the game, so as not to disturb the message. The models of the characters should appeal to manga fans, as it seems that it was the artistic style of Japanese comics that inspired the creation of the characters' appearance.

Through its vivid sketchbook art style and sharp writing, If Found gives a powerful, affecting story about empathy and acceptance as a young adult.

I absolutely adored my time spent with If Found…. I knew within the first few minutes that it was going to be something truly special, earning a place in my favourite games of all time. The art from Liadh Young is stunning, the music sounds and feels like a dream and its story is unique, provocative and wonderful. Very few video games have made a true and permanent mark on my heart, but If Found… has done just that.

For many, If Found... will be an interesting story about LGBTQ life in early '90s Ireland. For others, it'll be a callback to the heartache of our own coming out experiences. It tells a very specific story of a very specific girl, but its examinations of families, friends, and how we sometimes need to let go of the past if we want to move forward, are universal. This is a great example of how stories about LGBTQ characters don't have to be aimed exclusively at LGBTQ audiences, and even without my personal connection to the story, it's the most brilliant game I've played this year.
