A third-person postapocalyptic RPG with survival elements, created by the authors of Dreamfall Chapters, Draugen and Dustborn. In Hello Sunshine we travel the desert along with a robot companion, capable of protecting us from various dangers. Our goal is to reach a tower seen on the horizon.
Hello Sunshine is a post-apocalyptic RPG with survival elements, in which we follow a gigantic robot. The development of this game was handled by the independent Norwegian studio Red Thread Games. Their portfolio consists of projects such as Dustborn.
In Hello Sunshine we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The main element of the gameplay involves following a gigantic robot that traverses a sandy desert, heading towards a mysterious white tower looming on the horizon.
During the day the desert is subject to a murderous heat, while the onset of darkness brings a veil of icy cold. This means we must stay close to the machine - it provides us with shade, as the heat pours from the sky, and also life-giving warmth when everything around freezes.
We cannot follow the robot step by step. In order to find the resources necessary for survival, we must regularly move away from it. We obtain food by hunting, while useful items await us in supply drops, warehouses, as well as in destroyed war machines, military stations, and settlements.
The Sunshine Recycler located on our forearm allows us to break down supplies into their basic parts, which can then be used to craft equipment, including tools and weapons. The deeper we venture into the desert, the more valuable rewards await us. The key to success is finding a balance between risk and safety.
As our bond with the robot develops, it becomes an increasingly indispensable aid, finding secrets for us, lifting us over obstacles, or protecting us from threats. Apart from atmospheric conditions, other machines that our robot fights to protect us also pose a danger to us.
Over time, we improve the robot's sensors, as well as defensive and mechanical systems. We can also customize its appearance to individual preferences, using stickers or paints. When it gets damaged, we have no choice but to make the necessary repairs.
This is not the end, because with progress we also gain the ability to create auxiliary bots, enabling the automation of selected processes (such as terrain mapping or resource gathering). Additionally, by completing extra quests, we unlock vending machines, rest areas and self-service rooms. They are waiting for us at the Sunshine service stations, where our robot is charged at night.
Hello Sunshine allows for single player gameplay or cooperative mode over the Internet.
Hello Sunshine takes us to a post-apocalyptic universe, specifically - to a world brought to the brink of total annihilation by the actions of the titular corporation Sunshine. During the game, we take on the role of the "last worker", who traverses a desert filled with automated systems in the company of a large robot, trying to reach a tower where he will have to decide the fate of the reality surrounding him.
