A metroidvania with pixel-art graphics and platforming elements. Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark is a sequel to Gal Guardians: Demon Purge and a spin-off of the Gal*Gun series. We play as two sisters with various skills and weapons, travelling through the land of demons and dealing with puzzles & opponents.
Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark is a sequel of the Mega Man brand.
In Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark, we watch the action from the side.
In the previous games from the series the world was limited to a single castle, but this time we have an entire demonic realm at our disposal. While exploring it, we jump on platforms, avoid terrain obstacles and traps, as well as engage in dynamic fights with opponents.
Mutually connected locations create a kind of labyrinth, where access to many places requires prior unlocking of a certain skill. This makes it worth returning to already visited levels, as there may be things waiting for us there that we were not able to discover before.
The game allows us to freely switch between two female characters - Kirika and Masha. This is important because they have been differentiated in of preferred weaponry, fighting style, and combat skills, which complement each other. Kirika specializes in combat using demonic ranged weapons, while Masha eliminates enemies in close combat with the help of a whip.
The protagonists have additional weapons, which are linked to the demonic energy collected along the way. Our wards can also revive each other if one of them falls on the battlefield.
As we progress, we acquire various equipment elements, among which we can find consumables, additional weapons, and so-called "Demon Relics" providing us with ive upgrades. They are associated with various skills that we can use on the battlefield and during exploration. In addition to this, the game has implemented a system that allows for combining and crafting additional weapons.
Our base of operations is a castle belonging to the Demon Lord. Allies us over time. They end up in our command center, serving us in various ways.
We can play Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark alone or in local co-op mode.
Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark takes us to a fantasy universe created for the needs of the brand. During the game, we play as Kirika and Masha, two warrior sisters who decide to embark on a journey through the land of demons. Their goal is to find their ruler Maxim and to restore him to his rightful place on the throne. On their way, they have to both confront demons and form alliances with them, as well as compete with demon hunters who are arriving from the kingdom of humans.
The two-dimensional graphics of Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark were created using pixel art technique.

This Gal Guardians sequel hits all the right notes for a fun if cumbersome search action experience: lovely animation and aesthetics, great action and boss fights, and a nice map to uncover. However it does suffer a bit for some repeated boss moments (like the scarabs in Yohane the Parhelion), some not-so-intuitive backtracking options, and the fact that you have to grind for bones to get the top-shelf navigation powerups. Still, it's far from being abysmal and is at least worth your time if you fancy an anime-infused search action game featuring characters from Inti Creates' Gal Gun universe. And some jiggle and fanservice to go along with it. For chrissakes, there's an achievement for getting bathed in a big-boobied dragon girl's oil saliva; that pretty much gives you an idea of the title's demographic.
