Frostpunk Video Game Series (Frostpunk)
A series of strategy games, enriched with clearly outlined survival aspects. The series was created and is being developed by the Polish team of 11 bit studios, which has in its portfolio, among others, such projects as the brand Anomaly and the bestselling This War of Mine.
The first Frostpunk debuted on personal computers in April 2018. The production was an artistic success (according to Metacritic, the average rating given to it by industry media was 84/100, while on the Steam platform it enjoyed "very positive" reviews). Along with high ratings went industry awards and excellent sales; suffice it to say that within three days of its debut the title found more than 250,000 buyers, a year after its release it found its way into the hands of 1.4 million players, and crossed the barrier of 3 million copies sold another two years later. Forging iron while hot, the developers quickly set about developing their masterpiece; in addition to smaller additions, two major expansions were developed, viz. Frostpunk: The Last Autumn and Frostpunk: On the Edge, which hit the hands of players in 2020. Meanwhile, in 2019, the item in question also appeared on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
In 2020, 11 bit studios and Chinese company NetEase Games announced a mobile edition of the production. Initially, it was referred to as Frostpunk Mobile, but over time it was renamed Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice. Then, in August 2021, the Polish developers introduced to the world the full-fledged second installment of the series; Frostpunk 2 was headed for personal computers.
The action of the first Frostpunk was set in an alternate, post-apocalyptic version of the 19th century, in which, as a result of a mysterious cataclysm, another ice age has taken hold on Earth. During the gameplay, we played the role of the leader of a city built around a steam heat generator. Wanting to take care of the fate of the handful of survivors who came under our wings, we had to not only take care of the coal that powers our priceless "furnace" or expand the city, but also make morally ambiguous decisions, affecting the quality of life of the inhabitants and their future. Frostpunk 2 on the other hand, drew handfuls from the original, but introduced a number of changes. This time the authors took us to the year 1917, to the city of New London, whose residents saw a chance to provide heat for all in need in a new resource - oil.
Unlike its predecessor, which used proprietary technology, Frostpunk 2 operated on the basis of Unreal Engine 5. However, both productions boasted high-quality graphics, maintained in a dark and serious style. They played to the accompaniment of an atmospheric soundtrack, signed by Piotr Musial.

To survive, people rely mostly on steam engines. However, it is not enough, and the society is falling apart, which means it needs to change. The gameplay focuses on the survival aspect, which, unlike in other such productions, means more than gathering and managing resources. Strategic elements are also of great importance, and you also need to make difficult and morally ambiguous decisions. The game features distinct visuals, in which the cold colors of nature are contrasted with the warmer hues, which symbolize the remains of civilization.
