A city builder, in which we construct cities on constantly shrinking islands. In Flooded we must quickly create structures and extract materials to use up our land's natural resources before it's covered in water.
Flooded is a city-builder game which subverts many tropes and rules of the genre. It was developed by Artificial Disasters.
Flooded is set in a world which is becoming increasingly inhabitable due to the constantly rising water levels. Those who managed to survive the global disaster settle down on islands, where they hastily construct cities and exploit the available natural resources. When the water starts posing a threat to them, they must pack up and move to another location, where they can be safe - at least for now.
Though global warming is seemingly responsible for this state of affairs, there may also be other reasons to it as well. The game's story mode lets us learn what caused the disaster.
The gameplay of Flooded is shown from the isometric perspective. The game takes place on relatively small islands, on which we must construct buildings, collect precious materials and other resources. We must also handle research and search for relics, which can make survival just a little easier. We're not the only survivors, however, and the inhabitants of other islands may be desiring our resources. We must therefore also build fortifications, turrets and traps to hold them off.
The water level constantly increases, so we must also create a ship. We can use it to evacuate our current island and search for a new one; there we'll find a new landscape, new possibilities and new challenges to face.
In addition to its story mode, Flooded also features roguelike-inspired Quickplay and Endless modes, in which we must survive for as long as possible on procedurally generated islands.
The pixel art visuals of Flooded are simple, yet colorful and easily readable.
