The PC release of Fall of Light developed by RuneHeads is an RPG featuring certain elements typical for dungeon crawlers. The game is available on PC thanks to the 1C Company, who took up on their shoulders the task of publishing it. The developers drew the inspirations for their game from Dark Souls - it is clearly visible in the game’s plot and mechanics.
The action of the game is set in a fantastical world consumed by darkness. Centuries ago, this darkness had been defeating starting the Age of Men. In the latter part of this period, the evil force returns to devour anything that stands in its way. A player assumes the role of a warrior named Nyx, whose final task is to embark on a journey through the realm that is filled with many dangers and guide his daughter – Aether to the last place suffused with sunlight.
One observes the action from the top-down perspective, explores the grim locations, interacts with encountered NPCs, and discovers numerous mysteries followed by consecutive pieces of the story puzzle. A player also has to avoid traps and solve more or less complex logical and environmental puzzles. What makes the task more difficult is the fact that one has to continuously ensure the security of Nyx’s daughter.
Combat is an important element of the game – one has to face both basic enemy units, as well as powerful bosses, who can be defeated only by employing proper strategies. In battle, Nyx can assume various fighting stances and use diverse weaponry divided into seven classes – one can take down the foes from a distance with a bow, or engage them in close combat with two short swords. As the story develops, the main protagonist acquires certain special abilities that boost his combat potential.
Fall of Light for PC delivers decent visuals that feature dark color scheme and a bit cartoonish style.

VGChartz: 2 / 10 by Paul Broussard
There is no amount of enjoyment to be extracted from this experience.
Nindie Spotlight: 5 / 10 by Nindie Spotlight
As a whole my problem with Fall of Light is that there’s such an abundance of titles on the Switch of all kinds that are simply implemented better, making it tough to recommend with any enthusiasm. If you’re thirsty for a challenge there are plenty of options, and ones where you’ll feel like you have far more control over your outcome. I suppose there will be an audience based on the fact that this is meant to appeal to the Dark Souls crowd while they wait for its arrival on Switch but too often the challenge I had in the game was tied to its poor mechanics rather than by design.
Pure Nintendo: 3 / 10 by Dillan Combs
Fall of Light's combat is dully simplistic, with the escort aspects causing some irritating backtracking. Its presentation does little to differentiate itself from the game it's based on nor is it presented in a particularly good way either.
