Polish FPP slasher, inspired by such games as Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Arx Fatalis or Dark Souls. In Elderborn we play the role of a warrior, who eliminates the hordes of enemies, fighting with the white weapons.
Elderborn is a slasher, developed by independent Polish studio Hyperstrange, founded in April 2015. The source of inspiration for the developers were cult productions like Souls series.
Elderborn takes us on a journey to a fantastic land, whose inhabitants centuries ago managed to fight off an attack from the mysterious and terrifying Golden Army. Hundreds of years later, a long-forgotten enemy has returned, and the task of the gamer playing the role of a fearless warrior is to reveal the secret of his power and deal with him once and for all.
In Elderborn we observe the action from the first person perspective (FPP). When we travel through gloomy locations, among which we can find sows bathed in darkness or dismal ruins, we are mainly engaged in fighting with our opponents. Opponents such as bandits, undead or various monsters like oversized scorpions are eliminated with a wide range of white weapons. The clashes are dynamic, and during them we must not only block attacks, make rapid evasions and lead quick counter-attacks, but also carefully watch the movements of enemies to find their potential weak points, with gaps in the defense at the forefront.
Although the three-dimensional graphics of Elderborn do not look particularly impressive from a technical point of view, ingenious opponents and gloomy location designs may appeal. The game goes on to the accompaniment of a heavy metal soundtrack effectively warming us up to the battle.

Elderborn is an old-school slasher game that provides lots of fun in a very simple way. Feeling of smashing the hordes of monsters is incredibly satisfying. However, developers should work more on bosses design, fighting them is too easy. Another minus is leveling system which in my opinion should be more elaborate. Elderborn is good value for money and easily can help you relax after a tough day.

Elderborn is almost a good game. It's got most of the ingredients that would require, such as strong visuals, tight gameplay, and varied enemies. But the placement of those enemies is so terrible and ill-conceived that it basically ruins the entire game. That along with a third act that feels like the game just gives up do a whole lot to damage what could have been a very compelling experience.

ELDERBORN spent five years in development to include Steam Early Access, and it doesn’t feel like enough still. It’s an unremarkable, yet interesting bite-sized Souls-like that’s worth playing, but at a discount. There’s a lot of squandered opportunity here, but the small team at Hyperstrange clearly has ion and talent. ELDERBORN wears its influences on its sleeve, and I can appreciate that.
