Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z is another fighting game set in the universe of Japanese comics and TV series. The game was developed by a Tokyo studio, Artdink, outside country of the Rising Sun known primarily for the series of economic strategy games, A-Train, the last installment of which appeared under the name of The Train Giant in Poland. Battle of Z is the first approach of the said developer to the Dragon Ball franchise.
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z presents a model of the game which is hardly different from that which we have seen in previous games set in that universe. It is still a very dynamic and effective fighting game that allows us to fight on the ground and in the air as heroes such as Goku or Vegeta. To the rich repertoire of attacks and powers already known so far, a bunch of new ones ed, such as a new transformation into Super Sayianina for Goku.
Although the game allows us to enjoy a full-fledged single-player mode, the essence of the game lies in playing against other players. We can do it in two ways. First, We are fighting in two team, two fighters each, by attacking the opponent, the players from each pair charge a special GENKI indicator which, when filled, allows to perform a very powerful attack. There is another variant of this mode in which all the participants forces and take on a huge boss. The second option of playing with other players – representing the biggest news in the Battle of Z—is a battle royale mode. In this mode, up to 8 players fight on the “free for all” principles. The whole is embellished with three-dimensional graphics, which, thanks to cel-shading, captures the spirit of the cartoon original very well.
