Disciples: Liberation is the fourth installment of the cult series of RPG and turn-based strategy games, launched in 1999. The game was developed by Frima Studio team (authors of such games as Chariot) and published by Kalypso Media.
Disciples: Liberation takes us on a journey to the dark, fantastic land of Nevendaar. We take on the role of the magically endowed Avyanna, whose task is to liberate the country. In order to do so, the heroine has to uncover the country's dark secrets, forge alliances with the factions that control it and make decisions that will shape both the future of Nevendaar and her own fate. The story told in the game can end in five ways, and which ending we see is determined by our actions and choices.
Disciples: Liberation shows the action from a top-down view. Exploring different regions of the vast land (including The Plains of Widows, Heurik, Grayleaf and Whitelands), we perform various tasks; among more than 270 missions you will find both those that push the plot forward and side quests. As we progress, we establish more or less friendly relations with the inhabitants of Nevendaar and various factions such as the empire of humans ruled by religious extremists or the undead led by a mad queen. The town of Yllian's Castle also plays an important role in the game as both a base and a safe haven. For this we need resources, which we get in exchange for completing tasks, we can find on the world map, receive from our allied forces or obtain from production buildings.
Avyanna can represent one of four different classes. Despite the fact that she deserves to be called powerful, and that we develop her abilities over time and gain better and better equipment for her, she wouldn't be able to liberate the land on her own. So we need to recruit companions and raise as impressive an army as possible, for which it is possible to recruit more than fifty types of units fighting with cold and ranged weapons or combat magic. Battles with enemies take place in turn-based mode, and during them we have to show a tactical sense and skilfully use the strengths of our troops. Apart from regular enemy soldiers, much more powerful bosses stand in our way, and defeating them requires developing an effective, unique strategy.
Disciples: Liberation features 3D graphics in a slightly less dark style than previous installments of the series.
According to the developers, the completion of Disciples: Liberation is a task of over 80 hours. However, the time can be reduced a bit by taking advantage of the automatic resolving of some fights.
The core of Disciples: Liberation is an extensive story campaign. In addition, there is a PvP mode, in which we can try our hand in multiplayer battles with another player.

Game Ratings for Disciples: Liberation Video Game.
TechRaptor: 7.5 / 10
Disciples: Liberation suffers from some predictible AI and difficulty spikes. Despite this, it still manages to be a very deep and engrossing strategy RPG.
GameSpace: 7.5 / 10 by Catherine Daro
Disciples: Liberation is a unique combination of turn-based strategy and real-time RPG. The game features interesting gameplay hooks that could redefine the genre in long-term perspective.
GameSpew: 8 / 10 by Richard Seagrave
The story at the heart of Disciples: Liberation perhaps isn’t the most engaging, and the voice acting is certainly questionable at times, but you’ll soon look past both issues and simply enjoy what the game does right. Nevendaar is a world densely populated with things to do, and Disciples: Liberation wants you to engage with it without bogging you down. What’s more, with most quests posing choices that could affect your standing with the factions present in the world and your companions, there’s plenty of soul-searching to be done. Ultimately, no matter which of the multiple endings you receive once your journey is over, you’ll having to make those tough decisions along the way.
