Sequel strategy game played in turn-based system, Deadlock, by Accolade. Despite the fact that in comparison to the original Deadlock II has been enriched with a number of new options and gameplay possibilities and added a new story, the game is still based on the basic assumptions of its predecessor and very much resembles it.
Deadlock II: Shrine Wars is a sequel to the turn-based strategy game, Deadlock by Accolade. It was produced by the Cyberlore team, known primarily for creating a supplement to Warcraft II (Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal), additions to the fourth MechWarrior (MechWarrior 4: Black Knight, Mech Paks, MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries) and a supplement to Heroes of Might and Magic II (Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Price of Loyalty). Despite the fact that in comparison to the original Deadlock II, a number of new options and gameplay possibilities have been added (9 new combat units, 14 new buildings, 13 new technologies, 2 new worlds) and a new story has been added, the game is still based on the basic assumptions of its predecessor and reminds it very much (some may even try to say that it is a "pseudo" sequel).
Seven different empires stand here for a race, leading to the discovery and acquisition of knowledge and technology of an ancient, already extinct civilization. Deadlock II, similarly as in the first part, takes place only on the surface of one planet (divided into 36 areas and seven environments). This is a "build a star empire" game reminiscent of the famous Master of Orion II title, with the only exception that you have to worry about only one planet at a time, and you don't have to worry about something like a space fleet. The player must develop colonies (i.e. erect buildings with a specific economic and military purpose), obtain raw materials necessary for the development, invention of new technologies and construction of military units, develop trade, take care of good diplomatic relations with neighbors and lead the army to battle.
