We visit the new land of Elrant, fighting new types of enemies, playing as White Wolf, engaging in new mini-games and completing new quests.

Ashes of Elrant is a DLC for the indie role-playing game Chained Echoes, created by Matthias Linda and inspired by 16-bit jRPGs. It expands the storyline from the base version and introduces new mini-games.

Story

The story in Ashes of Elrant starts just before the finale of Chained Echoes. When the group of heroes is preparing for the final battle, the Crimson Wings receive a call for help. The answer to it leads to the land of Elrant. We can understand the history of the Leonara Order, and the past of Lenne and Raphael.

In addition, all the characters known from the base version appear in the expansion, including the secondary ones.

Gameplay

The add-on introduces the land of Elrant, full of dungeons and cities. We can fight 40 new types of enemies using equipment not found in the base game. The new playable character named White Wolf proves helpful in battles.

In Ashes of Elrant we can engage in fishing and also use the world map outside the airship. Additionally, the DLC allows to communicate with animals, as well as to operate a city brewery. Besides fishing, new activities include a mini-game testing our memory.

Technical aspects

Ashes of Elrant is not a standalone expansion, and therefore requires the base game Chained Echoes in order to play.

Graphics and music

Just like in the case of the original release, Chained Echoes: Ashes of Elrant is characterized by pixel art style inspired by Japanese role-playing games from the 16-bit era. In addition, we can listen to 15 new music tracks.
