An action platformer with elements from RPGs and metroidvania games. Awaken: Astral Blade features Tanya as the protagonist - a bionic girl who explores rainforests and other areas of the Horace Islands. The game allows to make choices to influence the story and its ending.
Awaken: Astral Blade is an action platform with RPG elements. The game was developed by the independent Chinese studio Dark Pigeon Games.
The main character of Awaken: Astral Blade is a bionic girl named Tania, who was sent to the rainforest on the fictional Horace Islands to find a missing member of the Investigation Force. The missing person was sent there to investigate the mysterious energy of Karpas, transforming animals and plants into mutated beings called anatemorphs.
How Tania's future unfolds largely depends on our actions and the choices we make. At key moments, the game allows us to make decisions that influence the further course of the story and its ending.
In Awaken: Astral Blade we watch the action from the side. The gameplay is based primarily on traversing locations and engaging in dynamic battles with opponents. Tania is capable of combining attacks into spectacular and deadly combos, performing lightning-fast dodges and parrying blows. On the battlefield, the protagonist primarily uses melee weapons (such as swords or hammers) and a wide range of combat skills.
As we progress, we collect a mysterious substance called Ether, which allows us to develop the heroine, unlocking new abilities and improving the ones we already have. Over time we also acquire better weapons and other useful items, which increase our combat potential.
The game is enriched by arcade challenges that force us to jump on platforms and avoid traps and terrain obstacles, as well as the choices we make. Our decisions affect not only how the story will unfold, but also the direction Tania will take while traversing the Horace Islands. In addition, along the way we find various information about the world around us.
The graphic design of Awaken: Astral Blade is maintained in a manga style.

Game Ratings for Awaken: Astral Blade Video Game.
NoobFeed: 57 / 100 by Joy Rahman
AWAKEN: Astral Blade is visually stimulating, with solid Metroidvania gameplay, though it falls flat in some key areas. Too familiar of a plot with a lack of substance on character development and dialogue will occur. Fun boss fights and exploration come with repetitive enemies and fiddly combat mechanics that just leave so much to be desired.
God is a Geek: 6 / 10 by Mick Fraser
Awaken - Astral Blade is a decent if run-of-the-mill Metroidvania, but don't go in expecting anything unique or particularly invigorating.
Analog Stick Gaming: 7 / 10 by Jeff M Young
Awaken: Astral Blade is a visually pleasing Metroidvania that has intense flashy combat, and an enjoyable world to explore, but it falls flat in areas that can get in the way of the experience. Its story and characters are immediately forgettable, and a constant slew of grammatical errors and painfully bad voice work really stand out in a bad way. There is a good foundation here for Dark Pigeon to work from and refine, especially as this is their first game. If you are the type to enjoy really any Metroidvania title and need a break from beating Hollow Knight for the twelfth time, then you could find some fun here if you don’t mind wading through its numerous flaws.
