A hybrid of a science-fiction action game and a strategy simulation concentrated on automation of processes. In Astronomics we play as an astronaut who is using robots to perform various tasks for him. The protagonist deals with space mining on asteroids and selling resources needed to fund our dream flight to Earth.
Astronomics is a production on the border of actionLight Fingers.
Astronomics transports us to a science fiction universe, in which space mining is one of the main ways to make a living. During the game, we play as one of these cosmic miners, working for Cube Corporation and mainly dealing with the extraction of natural resources from asteroids and selling them for profit.
The main goal of our protagonist is to gather the resources needed to purchase a ticket that would allow him to fly to Earth. The cost of living on the Blue Planet has become truly astronomical and returning to this globe is a dream for many. It's up to us to make it happen for the main character (for the first time in his life).
In Astronomics we watch the action from a bird's eye view. During the game we undertake contracts for various corporations, including data collection, search and rescue missions, and equipment production. Our main activity is space mining.
The game provides us with a map of procedurally generated asteroids, diversified in of properties and natural resources. We move between them on board our freighter, and upon reaching the orbit of one of the celestial bodies, we land on it with a smaller unit, and then proceed to extract resources.
Initially, we handle everything ourselves, remotely controlling a self-constructed robot. By selling accumulated resources and completing tasks, we earn money that we can spend on increasingly better mining equipment, enabling the automation of individual processes (from resource extraction, through their transport, to equipment defense). The growing production capabilities of our freighter, which we can also develop, also remain significant.
Pirate attacks are a regular thing in the asteroid belt. Although there is nothing to prevent us from dealing with them solely by means of automated defensive measures, we can just as well step in and try to confront the enemies ourselves. An additional complication is the fact that after plundering a given asteroid, we still have to fly away from it and reach the mothership in one piece, which requires us to navigate efficiently through cosmic debris.
