Asgard's Wrath 2 is the second installment in a series of VR action RPGs, originating from 2019. It was developed by Sanzaru Games, known for such games as Marvel Powers United VR.

Plot

Asgard's Wrath 2 is set in a world where Norse and Egyptian mythology co-exist.We play as the Cosmic Guardian, a being wielding divine powers, betrayed by Loki and imprisoned to be forever damned.

The protagonist is eventually freed by the Norns once Loki begins to threaten the entire universe. We therefore head to Egypt to find divine allies against the god of mischief. Before the Egyptian gods ally with us, we must first help them overcome their own foes.

Mechanics

Asgard's Wrath 2 is a first-person game. We play as mortal heroes, differing in of fighting style, skills and preferred weapons. We can also transform wild animals into anthropomorphic allies to help us overcome the challenges ahead.

The adventure takes us through various open locations, such as the Great Sand Sea, Muspelheim (the Norse realm of fire) or Duat (the Egyptian underworld and home of Anubis). Our base of operations is the Inbetween, a space between worlds where the Norns reside.

To progress the game, we must complete story quests and side quests. Along the way we'll face off against numerous enemies, such as hostile Norse and Egyptian deities and monsters. The player must stay mobile, making good use of their weapons (ranging from standard melee and ranged weaponry, to whip-swords and boomerang axes) and skills.

There are also numerous puzzles, requiring help from our companions as well as switching between the human and divine perspective. Aside from the main story, there's a special roguelike mode with procedurally generated dungeons; each run is scored and placed on the online leaderboards. In moments of downtime we can indulge in fishing, hunting or resource gathering.
