ARK: Survival of the Fittest for PC and PS4 is a free-to-play online action game. It is a spin-off to ARK: Survival Evolved and started out as a fan mod for this title; only later it was converted into a standalone commercial project.
Mechanics
ARK: Survival of the Fittest offers no story campaign and is focused solely on multiplayer PvP matches in which up to 72 players divided into several tribes compete on large, enclosed arenas. A game ends when there is only one team left standing. Each tribe can consist of up to six players, which means that a maximum o twelve such teams can romp around the map. Of course, those who prefer more intimate atmosphere can play in a significantly smaller group.
At the beginning of a match, the players are taken to an area. In the center of it, there is a pile of useful items. Each player has to decide whether or not they are worth dying for at an early stage of the gamer or is it better to quickly retreat into the nearby forest. While playing, it is crucial to find and tame dinosaurs and other wild beasts that serve as mounts and help in combat. The tension is maintained by the so-called circle of death which shrinks the battlefield with each ing minute, forcing the players to clash more often.
In the game, the players can make use of a rich arsenal of weapons, armors, and traps as well as the possibility of quick erection of simple structures. The title offers quite a freedom in configuring matches, allowing us to compete on various scales, starting with short 30-minute battles and ending with grand 3-hour wars. Moreover, ARK: Survival of the Fittest for PC and PS4 puts an emphasis on the e-sport aspect. Those with a professional attitude towards games can rival in special leaderboards and participate in tournaments.
