Farming Simulator 25: How to grow root vegetables - carrots, parsnip, red beet?
Root vegetables are one of the categories of crops in Farming Simulator 25. On this page of the guide we have described how to grow carrots, parsnips and red beets and what machinery you need to grow them.
Last update:
Root vegetables in Farming Simulator 25 include carrots, parsnips, and red beets. All of these plants are grown in the same way. On this guide page we describe how to grow root vegetables and what you will need to do that.
What do I need to grow root vegetables?
The devices and items required or useful while cultivating root vegetables are the following:
- Medium or large tractor: growing root vegetables requires a strong tractor, as there are several fairly heavy machines that need to be attached to it. Make sure your tractor is capable of handling it.
- Plow, subsoiler or spader: when growing root vegetables, the most optimal method of field preparation is plowing. So equip yourself with one of the plowing machines, according to your preferences.
- Ridge former (optional): in the store, in the Vegetable planters tab, you will also find ridge formers. They create ridges in the field, which make it easier for vegetables to grow. Using them counts as a single scattering of solid fertilizer across the field. So if you use such a machine after plowing the field, you will only have to spread the solid fertilizer once afterwards. You can also ignore this step and simply double spread the solid fertilizer later.
- Stone picker or rollers (optional) - after plowing, stones will appear on the field. Getting rid of them will prevent damage to vehicles going forward. If you used a plow or subsoiler, the stones will be small - get rid of them with a roller. If you used spaders, the stones will be large - get rid of them with a stone picker.
- Spreader and lime (optional) - every third harvest or so you should do lime spreading, which will give you a big bonus to your harvest. Equip yourself with a lime-compatible spreader (limestone icon in the store) and the lime itself. The field is already preliminarily limed when you set it up.
- Fertilizer device and solid fertilizer: to maximize yields, you need to fertilize twice. Use any solid fertilizer and any machine of your choice. If you use slurry or manure, you can do double fertilization - this way you will not have to repeat the process later, between fertilization and harvest. Keep in mind that if you have used a ridge former, one fertilization will be enough to maximize your crops.
- Vegetable planter and seeds: the planting process requires a special vegetable planter attached to a tractor. You will find it in a separate tab in the store. Fill it with seeds and choose which vegetable you want to plant.
- Weeder, hoe or sprayer (after first harvest) - after cultivating the field, weeds will start to grow. Get rid of them as soon as possible, preferably within a month of sowing these plants. Depending on the size of the weeds, you will need to use a weeder, a hoe or a sprayer.
- Vegetable harvester - to harvest, you will need a dedicated vegetable harvester. Unfortunately, all available harvesters leave a lot to be desired: they either have a very small harvesting width (only 80 cm) or they do not have a tank, thus scattering the crops on the ground, or both. The best solution is therefore to use the GBC harvester, which is the only one with a crop tank, or to hire an AI worker to use the harvester, while simultaneously driving a small tractor with a low trailer.
- Small tractor and low trailer: after harvesting the vegetables, you need a place to store them. Vegetables cannot be stored in silos, so you can throw them on the ground. During the harvest, however, you must keep the trailer under the combine's pipe to catch the vegetables falling out of it. Order the AI worker to operate the harvester so that you can focus on keeping the trailer under the combine's pipe. Use a small tractor and a low trailer; this will make it easier for you to fit all that under the pipe.
Periodic calendar and sales
Red beets and parsnips can be planted between April and June. Carrots can be planted between April and July. All three types of vegetables can be harvested between August and November.
All vegetables are best sold in January. At that time, they are worth around 430 euros per tonne, although carrots are worth marginally more than parsnips and beets. You can also preserve vegetables in a food processing plant (100 kg of vegetables for 45 kg of cans worth ca. 1,700 euros per tonne) or make soups in a soup factory (300 kg of vegetables for 75 kg of soup worth about 2,600 euros per tonne). If you deliver carrots, parsnips and beets to the factory all at once, you can process them into a triple soup, worth around 2,800 euros per tonne.
