Steins; Gate

  1. Who is it for: science fiction fans
  2. Year of release: 2009
  3. Publisher: JAST USA
  4. Platforms: PC, PS3, PSP, PSV, X360, iOS

Steins; Gate doesn't impress with unique mechanics, nor does it contain elements from other genres. This particular game is just like a book, offering a story full of diverse, expressive characters and unexpected twists. Our protagonist is a self-proclaimed inventor caught up in the middle of strange events in Tokyo. What's more, with the help of friends with whom he works on his discoveries, he manages to create a makeshift time machine from... a modified microwave. As you might guess, tinkering with space-time does not end well. The heroes quickly realize that they have got into serious trouble.

The game maintains the highest quality when it comes to the science fiction genre – we aren't dealing with absurdities, but with intriguing scientific issues, and the potential solutions to them. The story, which is rather long, shows the fate of each character in detail and allows you to diverge and discover romantic threads with the people you meet. And if this time travel tale doesn't satisfy our hunger for multi-threaded, complex storylines, there's always Steins; Gate 0 – an equally powerful sequel.

  1. Steins; Gate in our encyclopedia

Steins; Gate as well as Steins; Gate 0 is a visual novel installment in the science adventure series. It's a cycle of related games, all in the same genre, including titles such as Chaos; Head, Chaos; Child or Robotic; Notes. Their common denominator is the SF genre, and they all share the same universe. You can play them completely separately, but fans of the entire series will surely find small details that tie these titles together.
